Broke down? Locked out? Flat tire? Dead battery? Get free roadside assistance in Bangkok from a small army of volunteers standing by to help with auto problems.

From the news-you-hopefully-needn’t-use department comes this little-known service available to anyone throughout metro Bangkok. Stranded motorists can get help with a batteries that won’t start, flat tires and more by calling hotline 1677 at any time, 24-hours a day.

Once a call is placed – yes, some English operators are available – the service will take down motorists’ information and relay it to the nearest volunteers. Expect help to arrive in about 30 minutes.

Service is limited by who’s available to help of course, so that means you may not get help, depending on location and time of day.
