A brawl between two rival school groups in Bangkok on Monday evening left one student in critical condition before police managed to break up the fight.

The brawl broke out between students from two vocational schools at the Rachawat intersection of Rama V Road on Monday evening. The fight left one unidentified student, aged 18, barely alive after suffering multiple stab wounds. Police found the injured young man lying on his back and drowning in a pool of blood.

He, along with four more who were injured, were given first aid and are currently recovering at a nearby hospital.

A representative from the Dusit police station said the student “is currently in the care of medical professionals.”

Two youths connected to the fight have been arrested and found to be in possession of knives.

The fight occurred just 300 meters away from the Dusit district police station. One group reportedly rode motorcycles and chased the opposing groups with sharp knives before police officers came to disperse the youths.

Investigators are currently questioning those who were injured and detained, as well as witnesses, before moving forward with legal procedures.

For many years, gang violence among students at technical colleges and vocational schools has remained rampant across Bangkok, with rivalries between schools a frequent cause of the violent altercations.
