A very jealous and disturbed soldier who set fire to his 34-year-old ex-girlfriend in Bangkok’s Nong Khaem district last Friday turned himself in to police today.
After the the advocates of the Paveena Foundation for Children and Women brought the victim’s family to file a complaint with police yesterday, Sunai Tanlimsoon, 22, a soldier based at a Prachuap Khiri Khan military camp, turned himself in this morning and reportedly confessed to the crime.
Sunai said his ex, Sinitra Koommai, broke up with last Thursday after he traveled to see her in Bangkok. Sunai had a sleepless night in her house after the breakup, according to police, before he decided to pour gasoline on her and set her on fire early morning Friday, in the room where she slept with her two children.
Sinitra has third-degree burns over 40 percent of her body and remains under critical care at Siriraj Hospital.
Sunai said he did not intend to kill his girlfriend but simply wanted to ruin her beauty so she could not get a new boyfriend.
Police have charged Sunai with attempted murder. He will be remanded to a military court, Ban Muang and Sanook reported.
