Body pulled from Chao Phraya believed to be missing Japanese tourist

A body pulled from the Chao Phraya River on Sunday is believed to be Sonamu Tsuboi, the young Japanese tourist that lost touch with his family in Japan on Dec. 27.

The rescue workers that found the body identified the deceased as a man that was 163-168 centimeters tall with long, dark curly hair and a tattoo of the cartoon character Little Ghost on the left side of his stomach.

The police report later added that the man had no wounds to suggest that he was injured before dying, reported Thai PBS.

In his pockets was less than THB100.

Tsuboi stopped making contact with his family in Japan almost a month ago and did not appear for a pre-arranged meeting with his Japanese girlfriend at Suvarnabhumi Airport. They had planned to travel to Pai together. He was last seen on Khaosan Road.

His parents came to Thailand to file a case with the Thai police so that they would begin a search for their son.

The parents are supposed to return to Bangkok to positively identify the body at Siriraj Hospital.
