The brother of a top girl idol group member was found dead this morning after falling from a condominium in Bangkok.
Bangkok police were alerted at around 3:45am to someone falling from the 27th floor of a condominium in Thonburi. Upon arriving, officers found the body of Charn Areekul, a 19-year-old professional bowler and brother of Cherprang Areekul, the 26-year-old leader of girl idol group BNK48.
Charn’s body was taken for autopsy. Police were questioning witnesses as of 10am on Wednesday, according to Col. Wichien Simmakot of the Samre Police Station. They made no statement on the cause of Charn’s death.
Charn was a rising star and among the teen athletes on Thailand’s national bowling team in 2020. He was a student of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Srinakharinwirot University. Charn was the only brother of Cherprang, who rose to fame with the band when it was first established in 2017.
#CherprangBNK48 and #CherprangAreekul went trending on Twitter in Thailand on Wednesday morning, with her fans expressing their condolences.
Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly said that Charn fell from a ninth floor room. In fact, he lives on a ninth floor room but fell from the condominium’s 27th floor rooftop.
