BMA to construct MRT Grey Line first

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) recently confirmed that the so-called “MRT Grey Line” would be the first on its list of monorail construction projects. The construction is due for completion within the second term of Bangkok governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra.

The Grey Line runs along the north-south axis from Vatcharapol to Rama 9 Bridge. The system will connect with the BTS Skytrain at Thong Lor station. It is one of three, planned monorail routes.

The BMA is now in process of weighing the strengths and weaknesses of each monorail type to ensure consistency with the existing lines. After sorting out all technical issues, the BMA will conduct an environmental impact assessment by the end of this year and will open the bidding to find a construction firm by the beginning of 2014.

The line will begin serving the public as soon as the construction finishes. The BMA speculated that construction would take two to three years, Dailynews reported.
