A Dutch convicted pedophile that was blacklisted from Thailand was arrested for abusing Thai boys again on Sunday in Pattaya’s Jomtien area.
He told the police heading the investigation that he simple bribed a border police a paltry THB3,000 (US$95), reported Sanook.
The pedophile, identified as Joseph Maria Rennards, 69, was on a one year immigration blacklist for unrelated offenses, but says he slipped in by offering a bribe.
Surin police believe the Dutch man is part of an international child sex ring and the immigration chief there, Pol. Col. Charnchai Chaokasem, will perform a full investigation as to what the man was doing here and who let him through. Surin immigration police are working together with Chonburi police in the investigation.
On Sunday, Rennards was arrested in a trap set by Thai police, who sent two foreign agents to contact the Dutchman and ask him to arrange four teen boys to provide sexual services for THB7,000 at their rented room at Jomtien Longstay Hotel.
The oldest youth was 19 years old and was arrested on charges of prostitution. He was believed to be the suspect’s accomplice as well as a sex worker himself.
One of the victims, 16, admitted that the 19-year-old man had persuaded him into prostitution. The boy accepted the offer because he wanted money to buy accessories for his motorbike, Workpoint reported.
Pol. Col. Charnchai said that there was no immigration record of Rennards entering Thailand at a Surin border.
The police chief said that the pedophile could have entered Thailand on his own along a 100 kilometer border from Cambodia, though it’s certainly not easy.
He said that, if an officer is found to have a taken a bribe to let Rennard into the country, they will face criminal prosecution.
