A Thai farmer in western Tak province said that the bidding on his ridiculously large durian is now up to THB73,000 (US$2,200) thanks to a Chinese businessman. But don’t worry, you’ve still got a chance to get a bid in before the auction closes on Sunday.

Thanapon Chainok, 51, said that one of his 2,000 Monthong durian trees has produced a giant durian that weighs 18 kilos. For comparison, the average king of fruits is closer to 5-6 kilos, Sanook reported.

While Thanaporn is still accepting better offers on Facebook, he doesn’t intend to keep the money. The durian seller said he plans to donate the proceeds to a learning center for local farmers in his area.

Thanaporn’s business is already sustainable enough. He boasted that he’s made THB4 million (US$132,000) this year from selling durians.
