The Italian owners of the AC Milan Football Club have demurred on a possible sale to a Thai businessman soon after the news broke yesterday.
The holding company of former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi denied it was interested in selling the club despite a cash offer equivalent to THB37 billion by Bee Taechaubol of Country Group Development.
“In response to press reports, Fininvest reiterates that it is not interested in selling majority shares in AC Milan,” Fininvest said in a statement, adding that they “categorically deny that there have been negotiations, let alone pre-contract agreements or ‘decisive meetings’ on the agenda.”
Bee announced Monday he wanted to acquire a majority stake in the club without owning it outright and was optimistic a deal could be struck this month.
Berlusconi however responded that his company Fininvest had no plans to sell the team he’s owned for three decades.
