Beam falls from Skytrain, crushing four cars

At 9:40am today, a 10-meter-long steel beam used in construction of the “Purple Line” Skytrain extension collapsed onto four cars that were stopped at a red light at Taopoon intersection on Pracharat 2 Road.

Thairath wrote that one person was rushed to a hospital after sustaining injuries from shards of shattered glass. No casualties were reported. The four crushed vehicles included two taxis and two sedans.

The incident was reportedly caused by the malfunction of a construction crane that dropped the beam half way to the platform. As of the time of this writing, construction has been temporarily halted and traffic has resumed its normal course.
