Two Bangna police officers were caught on video this Sunday running a scam in which they solicited bribes from car drivers under BTS Bearing station.
A civilian, who filmed the incident and shared it online, wrote that the two officers had distinct roles: hailer and ticket issuer. The hailer would wave his hands at passing vehicles and ask drivers, who were led to believe that they violated a traffic regulation, to meet with the ticket issuer. But instead of issuing a ticket, the second officer chatted with the alleged miscreants and eventually accepted bribes in exchange for letting the incidents pass without comment.
After the video clip went viral, Pol Maj Gen Anuchai Lekbumrung, deputy chief of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, ordered the formation of an ad hoc committee to investigate the incident. If the two men in the clip are identified as real law enforcement officers, they will be subject to expulsion from the Thai police.
