The kingdom’s second Ikea store will open at the newest Central shopping mall in western Bangkok.
Shopping mall developer Central Pattana said yesterday it will accommodate the kingdom’s second Ikea store at Central WestGate, a shopping mall complex scheduled to open next month in Nonthaburi.
The new IKEA store will occupy 40,000 square meters, the same size as the Mega Bangna branch which opened in eastern Bangkok in 2011.
The big box store will connect to Central WestGate on three floors, according to Central Pattana’s Wallaya Chirathivat.
The Swedish furniture giant’s first store was a huge success and it had previously signaled a desire to open two additional stores in the Thai capital.
The space was originally reserved for the future developments such as condominiums, office buildings and hotels, but now Central will allocate the space to IKEA.
The new IKEA store expects to open in 2017 as Central WestGate is scheduled to open on August 28 and attract 80,000 visitors per day, The Nation reported.
