How bad is Bangkok traffic? A video going viral today shows a train suffering the same fate as other vehicles on the road — stuck at the red light in an intersection.

The clip, which has received more than 2.6 million views since being posted yesterday, shows a train slowly coming to a stop to allow other vehicles to pass at the Petchburi-Asoke intersection. Meanwhile, dozens of other cars are seen blocking the intersection on another lane. (Editor: It’s not uncommon in Bangkok to see vehicles forced to stop in the middle of an intersection because they simply cannot go forward.)

“Even a train had to stop [at the red light],” the videographer wrote.

While many were shocked to see a train — you know, the vehicles that theoretically run on schedule — get stuck at a red light, the admin behind “Thai Train Story”, a Facebook page that shares interesting stories about diesel trains, wasn’t that surprised.

“This isn’t new. It’s been happening for a long time. Motorists think that the traffic is interrupted by the train schedule, but actually… a train often has to wait for a long time to pass through [an intersection],” wrote Thai Train Story, as it shared the video.

“People who ride trains out of Bangkok in the evening encounter this all the time.” Guess we learn something every day.

Meanwhile, Police TV, the official Facebook page of the Royal Thai Police, also shared the viral clip, reminding motorists to stop their cars before the traffic light, if they see that there’s no space to go forward.

“You’re supposed to leave a space for a train to pass, at least for your own safety.”
