Thailand will create special tourist courts to process the high volume of tourist-related cases in the country’s most-visited cities.
Bangkok will be the first with its new court opening in September, just in time for what will likley be another record breaking tourist season for Thailand.
Similiar courts will be created shourtly afterward in Phuket, Pattaya, Chiang Mai and Samui
The courts will operate at existing district courts, but in the evenings, so they can handle tourist-related cases quickly and not disrupt the already crowded daily schedule.
Trials in the tourist courts will be for civil cases such as disputes over prices and scams and not criminal cases.
One hurdle officials have in the implementation of the system are existing regulations, which will need to be changed, the Phuket News reported.
