Bangkok police again seek to curb road lawlessness

An artist’s near-future depiction of Bangkok’s roadways should traffic regulations not be enforced.

Remember back in the fall when Bangkok’s cops were getting all serious face about enforcing traffic law? For a couple weeks they even were even towing illegally parked vehicles? Then the Amnesty Bill was floated, and all hell broke loose.

While anti-government protests have not fully subsided, the police will get back on the job of trying to rein in Bangkok’s road anarchy beginning March 1.

Police at all 88 stations in the Thai capital have been told to get tough on traffic violations along Bangkok’s 40 biggest roads.

Towing improperly parked vehicles will again be a priority, along with driving against traffic, unsafe overtaking, failing to stop at traffic signals, driving while intoxicated and other safety rules on the books, according to police Maj. Gen. Adul Narongsak.

Speeding and driving without a license will also be punishable no-nos, Bangkok Post reported.
