Bangkok motorcyclist plunges down open manhole, was probably drunk: police

A possibly drunk man rode his motorbike into a utility maintenance shaft early this morning on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road.

Pathomtat Srinak, 28, fell 7 meters into the shaft in front of Kasetsart University in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district just after midnight Tuesday.

Pathomtat was rescued and taken to a hospital with head injuries, according to Lt. Col. Noradet Techakulpong of Vibhavadi police.

Noradet said the construction site leaves the manhole uncovered at around 10pm with signal lighting to warn motorists to avoid it. During the day, it is covered with a cement sheet.

Police believe Pathomthat was riding his motorcycle drunk, Noradet said, and will investigate further.
