Bangkok plans to launch “smart shelters,” the bus stops of the future, which will provide high-speed internet and let you charge your phone.
Bangkok Governor Aswin Kwanmuang announced the pilot program to renovate bus stops in Bangkok to become “smart shelters.” They won’t only come in handy when your phone is out of juice, but also tell you which buses are coming and will be equipped with an emergency alarm, Daily News reported.
However, netizens on the “Thai bus fanclub” Facebook page say Bangkok should improve the buses and service first, rather than spending their energy on the smart bus stops.
“The first things they need to improve are the conditions of the buses, bus drivers, and payment methods. You install wifi, so that we’ll be more patient when we have to wait for a long time?” read one popular comment.
Some netizens disagreed with the whole idea, saying it was a waste of the city’s budget.
“They’d better use the money to make sure all bus stops have proper lighting and bus maps. Free wifi and charging station are unnecessary,” Karntip Borisuitsawat wrote.
“I don’t agree with letting people charge their phones at bus stops. They will fight with each other over this or simply forget their phones. We only need a bus stop that displays bus routes,” Nattawat Woragun wrote.
