The Royal Irrigation Department (RID) revealed that construction of flood barriers along Rangsit Prayoonsak Canal is 80% complete and expects to be fully operational by the end of August.
According to Director of the Water Allocation and Drainage Planning of South Rangsit Irrigation Project Pruthipong Tassaunchuleekul, the construction is aimed to prevent floods during rainy season.
The floodwalls consist of four sections with the first one located at Chulabhorn Water Gate, connected to Khlong 1. The construction continued to Khlong 3 and Khlong 5. The last barrier is erecting in Rangsit Thai or Khlong 7, and was delayed due to public consultation and survey.
Mr. Pruthipong said the construction was carried out with flexibility, allowing ample time for obstructions to be removed while the barrier was paved. It will be up and running by the end of August when downpours increase.
Around THB493 million was spent on construction of the walls. The barriers will prevent flooding while increase water pump efficiency. Additional dredging work has carried to the lower part of Khlong 6.
