In an alarming video being widely watched today, an escaped convict is seen pushing a terrified woman off her motorcycle before getting on it and riding off to freedom – all in a mint-blue hospital gown.

Police today are frantically searching for escaped con Krissana Kaewchingduang, who did a runner while waiting to be treated for fever and stomach pains at Samut Sakhon Hospital in southwest metro Bangkok.

“We are currently interrogating witnesses such as the prison guard who came with the prisoner to the hospital. We don’t know where he is right now,” Samut Sakhon city police chief Col. Jirawoot Tantasri told Coconuts Bangkok today.

Update: Convict who fled Bangkok hospital on stolen moto returned to prison by family

Thirty-year-old Krissana Kaewchingduang, who had been incarcerated at the Thonburi Remand Prison for dealing drugs, arrived at the hospital around 9:45pm on Tuesday. A doctor there let him sleep in a third-floor operating room to wait for another doctor to treat him. Krissana’s only escort was a sole prison guard.

But come morning, Krissana apparently felt well enough to bolt out a hospital door and onto the streets to steal 29-year-old Sarintorn Chuannock’s motorbike and make his getaway. Police remain unclear on the specific details of the escape, especially whether it was planned.

Police have since tracked down the stolen motorcycle to where it was abandoned at a temple on the Bangkok side of the border with Samut Sakhon province in the Nong Khaem district. He was considerate enough to leave the keys with the bike – and his hospital gown. The motorbike will be returned to the owner.

Col. Jirawoot added that metropolitan police have been notified to be on the lookout for the Krissana. Jirawoot fell short of accusing the guard of being an accomplice, but said the man was responsible for keeping him secure.

According to a wanted poster from the Thonburi Remand Prison, an unspecified reward will be given to anyone who calls 02-450-7446 with information leading to Krissana’s capture.
