A Bangkok police officer turned himself in today after allegedly shooting and killing a French expat at the Trendy Building in the city center following a drunken bar brawl last night.
Pol. Snr. Sgt. Maj. Kantapong Huadsri, 49, turned himself in around noon and confessed to shooting 35-year-old Ait Kaki Mailk Djamel in the head outside the Dunkin Donuts store in the building’s lobby, according to Immigration Police Chief Lt. Gen. Surachate Hakpan.
Jawanjira Nutakrai, the dead man’s 32-year-old girlfriend, told police the couple had been drinking at Lucky Shot bar, just a block away from the crime scene, when Djamel became jealous because she was talking to the policeman, Bangkok Post reported.
After losing the ensuing fistfight, Kantapong allegedly followed the Frenchman to Trendy Building, where he was living, and shot him dead.
As if this story wasn’t already bad enough, Bangkok Police Chief Lt. Gen. Sutthipong Wongpin added that Kantapong was already involved in a legal battle stemming from shooting someone else six years ago.
Apparently, that wasn’t enough for him to lose his badge, something that finally happened after today’s incident.
Kantapong will be charged with murder.
According to Immigration Police, the Frenchman had been living in Thailand for seven to eight months and was looking for a job, Spring News reported.
