Bangkok to check all CCTVs following electrocution of homeless man

Bangkok Administration has ordered all city surveillance cameras to be inspected for electronic leakage after a homeless man was electrocuted to death near a CCTV pole on Saturday.

Bangkok governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra ordered a check of all 50,000 cameras and 10,000 poles across the city after the Metropolitan Electricity Authority yesterday found an electrical leakage from a CCTV camera at Soi Phaholyothin 47 where a homeless man died on Saturday.

The deceased, who did not have identification papers on his person, was found by a witness on his knees, clinging to a CCTV pole.

The contractor responsible for the installation of the cameras has agreed to compensate the family of the victim, although the man has not yet been identified.

The Metropolitan Electricity Authority found the CCTV was poorly wired and has shut off the electronic circuit of the camera until the cause of the leakage is determined.

The inspection came after a first group of mechanics from the district found no leakage at the camera, which contradicts the autopsy of the deceased that said the man died from electrocution.

From now on, there will be a safety check of CCTV cameras every 15 days, Thairath reported.
