Today marks the first official Songkran holiday and Mochit 2, the main bus terminal of Bangkok, is crowded with city-dwellers traveling to spend time with their families in their hometowns.

The Transport Co. Ltd. expects about 140,000 people to catch buses to the provinces today and the company has prepared 7,697 bus trips to carry people out of Bangkok.

The number is slightly lower than last night, when over 200,000 people traveled out of the capital ahead of the holiday. A total of 8,991 bus trips left Mochit 2 yesterday, according to INN News.

In photos that have been widely shared, a little highlight at Mochit 2 bus terminal last night was Thais gathering in front of a small TV to watch the finale of popular TV soap “Love Destiny” as they were waiting for their buses.

The Transport Co. Ltd. advises people to buy bus tickets from their ticket offices only and avoid buying “ghost tickets” from independent sellers at the stations.
