Bangkok cops are stepping up security measures during New Year celebrations.
Acting Metropolitan Police Bureau chief Pol Lt. Gen. Sanit Mahathaworn said special attention would be paid to venues for Christmas and New Year’s Eve parties to keep them free of weapons and illegal items, the Nation reported
This will include installing metal-detecting scanners at venue entrances.
Authorities also urged the public to not make prank calls to emergency hotlines, as this could prevent them from sending help to people in urgent need.
The National Institute for Emergency Medicine (NIEMS) said its hotline had been receiving 300 prank calls each day.
