Bad Sergeant Major: Officer accused of executing motorcyclist

A police officer has been charged with murder for shooting a motorcyclist in the head on Tuesday southeast of Bangkok.

Sr. Sgt. Maj. Suphan Chamnijin told his superiors Nares Rojbunsongsri died after hitting his head on the ground, not the bullet forensic examiners concluded was fired at a level plane into the back of his head at a Chonburi police checkpoint at which he’d failed to stop.

Suphan, who said he’d fired a bullet into the air as a warning, was also discharged from his duties, police spokesman Prawut Thawornsiri told The Nation.

Nares body will undergo a complete autopsy at the Police General Hospital in Bangkok.

It wasn’t the first time Suphan has comported himself in conduct unbecoming an officer of the peace.

On Monday night, witnesses said Suphan, who seemed drunk, rammed their vehicle with his truck. When officers arrived, they took Suphan back to the station and said they couldn’t test him for alcohol because all of their breathalysers were broken.
