A newborn was found apparently abandoned early this morning at a BTS station in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district.

Rescue volunteers found the infant boy, who was crying and wrapped in a pink blanket, at about 3am near the escalators of BTS Sena Nikhom’s Phahonyothin Road entrance.

A passing witness who saw someone leave the baby notified the police, but the person who left the child had already fled.

An examination found signs that the baby had not been born in a hospital, as his umbilical cord was cut unprofessionally. He is now being cared for at the Bhumibol Adulyadej Hospital.

Phahonyothin police said they would examine CCTV footage and conduct interviews to track down the responsible party for possible prosecution.
