Apple gadget lovers around the world are getting ready to queue up and splash cash on the new iPhone 6s, set to be released this week.
But have you ever thought about how much you have to work in order to get that cash to buy a new iPhone?
The average Bangkokian would have to work 149.5 hours, or 19 eight-hour working days, to be able to pay for an iPhone 6, according a new index of prices and earnings from Swiss bank UBS released this month.
The study explored how much time an average worker in 71 global cities have to work to earn various products. It highlights how pricey Apple’s iPhones can be for the locals in various cities.
While Bangkok has it hard, we’re better off than those from Jakarta (468 hrs), New Dehli (360.3 hrs), and Kiev (627.2 hrs — almost 80 days!).
If you’re from Zurich, then there is a higher chance that you only need to work for 20.6 hours, or about two and a half days, to buy an iPhone, while New Yorkers, will need to work a full three days (24 hours).
Other than iPhone, the index also compared income with other products. Just so you know: Bangkokians have to work 37 minutes to buy a Big Mac, 47 minutes for a kilogram of bread, and 17 minutes for a kilogram rice.
