Authorities: Aggressive woman taken away in taxi to ‘calm down’

The Bangkok Post yesterday posted this video of a woman being abducted by unknown men on Sukhumvit Road. Police now explain they were undercover officers.

The public’s concern over footage of a protester forced into a taxi Sunday prompted police offiicials to explain the incident yesterday.

The men seen in the footage taken on Sukhumvit Road were undercover officers, police Col. Chaiya Kongsub said, who took her to the police station to “calm down,” according to the Bangkok Post.

Col. Chaiya said the woman, 50-year-old Sunanta Puangsiri, was among a half dozen protesters arrested Sunday. All six were still in custody at the Crime Suppression Division, he added.

The video was widely criticized online, with images of the arrest alarming many. Col. Chaiya however said Sunanta was behaving “more violently than other protesters.”
