Day four of street demonstrations ended in another night of unrest with bombs injuring two people and damaging the official residence of Bangkok’s governor.
Two people were injured after assailants tossed ping-pong bombs at the Lumpini Park and Lat Phrao anti-government protest sites.
JS100 radio news reported three bangs heard at Lat Phrao intersection at 2am early this morning. The witnesses claim they saw a black car approaching the protest site and dropping incendiary devices, injuring two protest guards. One guard, 40, caught the force of explosion on his right hand while the other 44-year-old security guard was wounded above his eyebrow. Both were sent to Ratchawithi Hospital for stitches, Manager reported.
Earlier, Wattana Maakpa, a 20-year-old protest guard at Lumpini Park, claims at about 8pm last night he saw two men wearing headscarves on a Honda Wave motorbike drive from Sathon Road to the Thai-Belgium intersection and throw a bomb on the ground before fleeing up Wireless Road. The bomb caused a loud explosion, but no injuries were reported at the site.
At Suan Pakkad Palace, the official residence of Bangkok governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra, two motorcyclists were caught by CCTV hurling a hand grenade from the sidewalk outside at about 10:20pm.
The grenade was reported to be the same type used to attack Democrat Party chief Abhisit Vejjajiva’s home Tuesday night.
