The boxing ring at Fitness First Platinum
Last night saw the unveiling of the new Fitness First Platinum in Siam Paragon. Billed as the biggest and most luxurious gym in Asia, the venture is taking over the space previously held by California Wow, which closed last year amid financial troubles.
Press and fitness industry insiders assembled for the star-studded grand opening, which featured the UK Ambassador, His Excellency Mark Kent. The ambassador expressed pride that a British company was opening such an exciting facility. Other guests included Dance Your Fat Off contestants and lakorn Thai stars. Suriyon Aroonwattanakul (Deaw) was among the by-invitation-only guests treated to a dance performance of PSY’s “Gentleman” by the gym’s trainers and a tour of the new, two-story facility.
As well as the usual free weights and cardio machines on the lower level, the state-of-the-art gym includes three large group exercise studios for spin, yoga and Les Mills classes. A boxing ring features prominently in Fitness First’s design, as do punching bags, TRX suspension trainers, video game fitness machines and “freestyle zones” in which members can experiment with the gym equipment.
If that sounds too much like hard work, the club also has a member’s lounge featuring iPad stations and free Wi-Fi.
The gym, located on the fourth and fifth floor of Siam Paragon, opens to the public today.
