Are you looking to buy a used bicycle in Bangkok but paralyzed with fear of failure?
Fear not, gentle pilgrim.
Down the back sois behind National Stadium near MBK lies Sombat Kanamuji – by far the best place we’ve visited or heard of to buy a quality used cycle for getting around your neighborhood.
The store – which occupies an old shophouse on Chula Soi 28 in a neighborhood cluttered with old jalopy axles and hubcaps – sells fixies, beach cruisers, road/mountain/children’s bikes, and all other sorts of two-wheelers.
We didn’t see any unicycles but they do sell a super cool adult tricycle with a big basket in the back for foodstuffs.
Many of the bikes are Japanese – prices start at around THB2,000 but probably go into the tens of thousands of baht for the rare coveted finds.
Owner Sombat Jirasatidvorrakul runs the show and his hardworking staff of grease-stained gearheads will give your bike a once over – replacing the brakes, pumping up the tires, and installing a basket if you want – all included in the price of a purchase.
