Artists travel around Thailand in Khon costumes to urge Thais to vacation in their own country (VIDEO)

A group of Thai artists traveled around Thailand in Khon costumes to create a visually-stunning music video to promote domestic tourism.

The video produced by the group, called “Giants invite you to visit Thailand,” was released over the weekend. It features Thotsakan and three other characters from the epic taleRamakien, as well as singers from The Voice Thailand — Bongkoch “Film” Jarerntum and Tachai “Geng” Prathumwan.

Obviously, Thotsakan, the King of Demons of Lanka, who has ten faces and twenty arms, has decided to take a break from kidnapping the woman of his dreams to do some sightseeing in Thailand with a few of his friends.

Watching the video, our first thought was that this was another brilliant video created by the TAT to promote Thailand. However, according to Krobkuakao, they didn’t have any sort of sponsor, it was all done through the blood, sweat, and baht contributed by the group members themselves.

Really?

Apparently, they love Thailand so much that they were driven to create an video of this caliber purely out of love. Since the guy dressed as Thotsakan, Film Petcharut, is said to have attended The College of Dramatic Arts in Bangkok, it would sound more realistic if this was a school project assigned by a tough professor.

Their main objective was to get more Thais to actually explore the wonders that their country has to offer, instead of choosing to go abroad when they have time off.

In the video, they sing “We’re Thai, so naturally we should travel in Thailand. Traveling in Thailand is fun, so we want to invite you to come along with us.”

The video is broken up into the five regions of the country, with each getting a hashtag of their own. They visited popular tourist destinations in six provinces and five regions in their costumes.

They also promote festivals and unique activities that people can do, such as watching fireflies in the Amphawa district, and visiting the Phu Chi Fah and Doi Tung in Chiang Rai province.

No matter what their true intentions were, the video is worth watching. Now, the group plans on creating a second installment to the video, where the giants will be visiting all 76 provinces in Thailand. They probably have sponsors now. You can follow the group on facebook here.
