A floating pirate bar almost went to Davy Jones’s locker on Monday just off Pattaya when it capsized in rough seas, but no injuries were reported.

High waves overturned the Krakenian, a vessel converted into a pirate-themed bar, but no guests were on board at the time. The authorities successfully rescued all staff members and pumped water out of the boat, according to Sorapong Pongpaitoon, acting Marine Department chief.

No trace of oil was found where the ship capsized, Sorapong said, concluding that rough seas and stormy weather were to blame.

The Marine Department today was relocating the ship to the shore. Owners of the boat were barred from operating the ship again to prevent such an accident from repeating.

The ship’s owners, who were not identified immediately, were meeting with local authorities to answer questions.

The Krakenian only opened two months ago as a cocktail bar and restaurant that offering food, drinks, live music, a karaoke room, and squid fishing on the boat. The short-lived venture could reportedly accommodate up to 150 passengers.
