Today, Lumpini police will request that the criminal court issue an arrest warrant for a 45-year-old American man who is accused of assaulting a 41-year-old maid at a luxury hotel in Sukhumvit. As a result of the attack, the maid is suffering a cervical fracture that caused her to become paralyzed and to permanently lose her ability to breathe.
John Douglas Davis, a Tennessee local and a first-time visitor to Thailand, reportedly flung the maid, whose name is withdrawn, into the hotel bed on May 14. He checked out from the hotel and flew back to the US the next morning.
Authorities said that Davis’s intoxicated state might lead to the violence. According to Manager Online, Davis was drinking with two female friends in his room before the incident.
The maid’s family has asked her to be placed under the care of Pavena Foundation due to her financial limitation. She will receive cervical disc surgery to fix the fracture. However, doctor said that she would have to rely on a breathing machine for the rest of her life.
Police will contact the US embassy in Bangkok to ask for help in obtaining Davis’s arrest as soon as the warrant is issued. They released the photo of Davis, which can be found at Manager Online here.
