To restore security after night upon night of bombings and shootings in the capital, the Royal Thai Army announced yesterday it will deploy soldiers at 117 additional checkpoints near protest sites.

The announcement came after army brass met to discuss the ongoing security crisis, which has seen unknown assailants launch attacks with guns and grenade launchers. Four children died in the past week in Bangkok and Trat province.

That will raise the number of military checkpoints to 146, according to Maj. Gen. Wara Boonyasit of the King’s Guard 1st Division, with military patrols to sweep areas to discourage any violence, Bangkok Post reported.
