Approved: MRT Purple Line to get southern extension

The cabinet has approved the THB101 billion project to extend the Purple Line, which is scheduled to be up and running by May 2024.

The Taopoon-Rat Burana extension, as the name suggests, will link Taopoon, the last existing MRT station in Northern Bangkok, with the southern Rat Burana district.

The bidding for the project will start in October, with the construction set to start at the end of next year, reported Prachachat.

The extension, which will consist of 17 new stations, will pass several landmarks such as the Parliament, Democracy Monument, Memorial Bridge, and Wang Burapha, a historical neighborhood on Charoenkrung.
