Police arrested an anti-government protest leader accused of trespassing and damaging public property at a checkpoint in the Bang Sue district early this morning.
Tinnakorn Onprathum, who has since been released on bail, was arrested at 1am as he was returning to Makkhawan stage from dinner.
“I deny the charges,” Tinnakorn said. “I led the protesters there and encouraged the government officers to join us. We did not intrude.”
Tinnakorn is wanted on charges of intruding into a government office and damaging public property, as he led protesters on Feb. 12 to shut down the Department of Forestry, where some protesters destroyed property, police Maj. Chayut Marayart said.
Tinnakorn said he was not aware of the arrest warrant as it had just been approved by the court Monday.
He made bail with the help of relatives, Kapook reported.
