There was no mystery to solve in the the most recent rare death in Prachuap Khiri Khan province: it had bullet wounds and someone cut its head off.
Although no cause for the deaths has been determined for the 24 rare, gentle giants found dead in December, national park officials say poachers killed the one found Sunday.
The gaur’s body was found near a creek, and someone had burnt its body, likely to conceal evidence.
Investigators believe the giant, wild cow was shot while drinking water from the creek.
Prachuap Khiri Khan police Chief Maj. Gen. Thanet Sunthorasuk said gaur horns have a market value of THB50,000 to THB80,000, The Nation reported.
