Clarence “Bud” Evers Jr. was a technology teacher at Hillcrest High School in Evergreen, Alabama, for 15 years. For most of those years, his summer break was spent in Thailand paying underage boys to have sex with him and filming the lewd acts.
Last week, Evers, 54, learned he will serve 27 years in a U.S. prison after pleading guilty to child sex tourism and child pornography, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
The Justice Department noted that, for Evers, each school break from 2010-2014, was spent in Thailand and, each year, he returned with underage pornography he’d made of the boys, some as young as 13 years old, that he’d had sex with.
Working on a tip traced all the way back to one of the young victims in Thailand in April 2015, U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations began probing with help from the High Technology Investigative Unit. They raided Evers’ home on Feb. 11, 2016, and found a “substantial amount of child pornography” as well as much encrypted data they could not gain access to.
The man was still a teacher at the time of the raid but has been in custody ever since. He was taken into custody while he was teaching at the high school, according to Alabama news station WKRG.
Evers was sentenced on July 14. His sentence includes a lifetime of supervised release after his jail term and fines totaling USD55,000 (THB1.8 million)
When Evers pleaded guilty to his charges on April 14, he admitted he’d actually been visiting Thailand for nefarious sexual purposes since as early as 1999.
