American expats and unlikely foes to face off at Full Metal Dojo

Two American expats are going head to head inside the cage at Full Metal Dojo 5 in Bangkok on May 9th when university lecturer Dana Bloiun channels his geek rage to take on MMA promoter Jon Nutt in a heavyweight bout which will be fought under full pro rules.

Nutt with a perfect 0-1 record is well known for his singing prowess and can frequently be found belting out Thai songs in bars across Bangkok, as well as presenting the odd Coconuts video documentary, but he is best known as the man behind Thailand’s most successful MMA promotion. Blouin (2-1) has more to lose than most when he steps inside the cage because he is a highly successful IT expert pursuing a PhD as well as fulfilling teaching commitments at Thammasat University.

More seriously, the event will feature three amateur tournaments open only to Thai fighters.

Eagle-eyed fight fans might recognize Blouin as one of FMD’s referees, but he has been training in MMA since the sport was in its infancy and made his professional debut back in 2005 on a show which also featured future UFC star Jorge Rivera.

Nutt’s only MMA fight to date took place on a Dare event in Bangkok in 2012, but he has a handful of Muay Thai matches under his belt and also participated in an amateur boxing bout for Thai charity Operation Smile in 2013.

He was initially scheduled to face fellow American Musa Conteh at the last FMD event but that bout was canceled when the latter suffered an injury while fight fans in Bangkok were also disappointed to see a proposed matchup with Wesley Snipes nixed for April Fool’s Day related reasons.

Full Metal Dojo 5: “Made in Thailand” will be the promotion’s second event of 2015 and is set to feature two tournaments which are both open to amateur fighters from all over the kingdom as well as a couple of professional bouts. More information is online.
