A 29-year old US citizen claims to have been stranded at Suvarnabhumi Airport for 10 days after airline staff in Bangkok refused to give him a boarding pass due to his inclusion on a secret no-fly list. According to the man, a 29-year-old medical student named Rehan Motiwala, he slept on a cockroach-infested mattress while being kept in a windowless detention room.
The passenger also claimed that US and Thai officials didn’t give any explanation as to why he wasn’t allowed to travel, leading him to assume that he had been placed on a secret, US no-fly list. Before a US justice official arrived to question him, Motiwala wandered around the terminal for four nights. He was finally given permission to fly out over the weekend but the reason for his detention was still not given. The US claimed that it was maintaining this silence in order to avoid inciting terrorists.
The Los Angeles Times reports that the only way to know whether or not one has been removed from the no-fly list is to try to fly again.
