An American man has been charged with manslaughter after attacking an Australian he claimed was strangling a Pattaya bar girl yesterday.

Jose Manuel Polanco, 43, from New York, turned himself into police after his punch allegedly led to the death of Benjamin Robb, 42, from South Brisbane, in a fight at Ruby Club, on Pattaya Soi 6.

Robb reportedly fell to the ground and hit his head near the bar. The Aussie was pronounced dead at the hospital due to a brain injury.

Polanco claimed that he was defending himself. He did not apply for bail and is in police custody, Thairath reported.

Both the U.S. and Australian embassies have been notified. If convicted, Polanco could face a jail term of three to 15 years.

We’ll update this story as more information becomes available.

  1. drunk man was repeatedly punched in the face, thrown over a bar. then kicked and had his face stomped on. all these actions, have gone long past the point of self defense. stomping on someones head is action taken if you are trying to kill someone. this man has killed before as well. i think he deserves to face a murder charge and the prison time that goes with it. hes taken someones life again, he deserves life in prison
