Pad Thai is probably the first dish that comes to mind when talking about Thai food, but how many people know the history of our national dish and what makes Pad Thai so delicious?
This new tourism promo video explores Thailand through the history of its most popular go-to dish and its ingredients.
It starts with the soft noodles: noodles are made from rice, and it’s the same rice Thais eat with barbeque pork and chicken rice. Meanwhile, the sauce comes from tamarind. Locals believe the tamarind tree is holy and use it to evict evil spirits like Krahang ghosts.
And dried shrimps? They come from the south of Thailand where the beautiful beaches are.
Want a plate? Better yet, eat Pad Thai on a banana leaf. Banana tree trunks are used to make krathong for Loy Krathong festival, as well as old-school sand bags to practice Muay Thai.
We gotta give Tourism Authority of Thailand credit for this one. These stunning shots of the country and its fun facts are an effective reminder of why we choose to live in amazing Thailand.
