Alibaba founder Jack Ma has advice for Thai Entrepreneurs

Jack Ma, Founder of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group, was in Thailand yesterday to give an inspiring speech on Entrepreneurship and Inclusive Globalization at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

His mission? To inspire those growing new startups in Thailand.

According to Ma, Alibaba Group is a platform designed to empower entrepreneurs and those working at startups to find success and new markets. He said that his company was not looking to grab business from Thailand but to encourage more Thais to join the world of e-commerce.

In 30 years, said Ma, technology and innovation will kill some jobs but new ones will be created. The young generation shouldn’t be afraid of new technology, but should embrace it, reported National News Bureau.

Ma says the education system needs to be changed to respond to the rapid change as globalization is becoming more of the norm.

He suggested that schools should teach kids to be more creative and imaginative and not learn only by memorization. He also stressed the importance of kids using their cognitive thinking skills, being optimistic, not to give up on dreams.

He said that every entrepreneur must have determination and creativity.

Ma added that transparency needs to be improved in Thailand, which he admitted is a difficult task.

During the speech, he recalled his own failures but said that they only made him work harder, reported Thai PBS.
