Alcohologists forecast dry Sunday, wet Monday for Thailand

Alcohol sales will be forbidden Sunday for Visakha Bucha Day.

The 24-hour ban begins at midnight sharp when the religious occasion commences at all locations except for that one place only you know about.

But no need to worry – though Monday is a holiday to recognize the holy day, the taps will flow and coolers unlocked as usual.

The religious holiday commemorates the Buddha’s birth, enlightenment, and death. Observant Buddhists will gather at local temples to make merit, and booze bans have been enforced since the military seized power eight years ago.

Today also marks the Royal Ploughing Ceremony, which marks the beginning of the rice-growing season and is a government holiday.
