AIS 4G contract with TOT delayed

Two years after holding the long-delayed, “most ridiculous auction in the world,” Thailand’s telecoms are facing new complications over spectrum allocations for 4G services.

State-owned TOT has put off signing a contract with AIS to lease a portion of unused spectrum that originally was to be inked in January.

TOT delayed the decision for several months, according to TOT President Yongyuth Wattanasin, to be certain the process follows the law.

Under a 2010 law, access to the spectrum can only be provided under an auction.

TOT itself is likely eager to sign the contract as it would bring in a minimum of THB800 million annually, Bangkok Post reported.
