Coach buses will be prohibited from making dangerous, steep ascents after 32 people died
Monday night in Tak province in an accident now blamed on the driver.
The Ministry of Transportation announced it will soon impose the new regulations, as minister Chadchart Sittipant said yesterday the accident was likely caused by the bus driver, who lost control while speeding to overtake another vehicle.
He added that several accidents have occurred along the same curve, and officials will install more lights and warning signs.
Meanwhile, Director Ansathai Rattanaditlok Na Phuket of the Dept. of Land Transport has requested cooperation bus service companies to prohibit tall coach buses from traversing steep roads. Such buses will be allowed to run along main roads only. However, new regulations have yet to be issued, Khaosod and NNT reported.
