7 things to do on the Fourth of July in Bangkok

Break out the Budweiser, the bunting and a hefty dose of liberty. America’s birthday is Thursday and it’s party time. For Coconuts readers interested in celebrating the USA’s righteous freedom consider these options for fun in Bangkok:

1.) U.S. Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney will host an Independence Day reception at the Grand Hyatt Erawan’s Grand Ballroom on the evening of July 3, 2013. The celebration is an annual event attended by Thai dignitaries and high-ranking officials. Besides celebrating U.S. independence, the event also strengthens bilateral ties between Thailand and the United States.

2.) Bangkok BeerVault is celebrating the 4th with some patriotic deals all week long at the Four Points on Sukhumvit 15. Under their “Born in the USA” plan you can enjoy a buy one get one free deal featuring the following brews: Budweiser, Anderson Valley Poleeko Pale Ale, Rogue Yellow Snow Ipa and Hazelnut Brown Nectar. They also have burgers, BBQ ribs and hot dogs.

3.) The KIS International School will hold a picnic on Saturday, July 6th from 12pm – 8pm. The Independence Day Committee has a great day planned with lots of American food and drink, music and activities, and a chili-cook-off. Tickets are THB 200 advance or THB 300  at the door. Children under 12 free!

4.) At Gossip Bar in Thonglor  Chef Julien is preparing an American buffet. Patrons can choose from New York style hot dogs, mini burgers, pork ribs, chicken wings, onion rings, crab cakes, pork cakes, coleslaw, fries and cupcakes. Since the Fourth of July also coincides with their weekly Gossip Girls ladies night, all female attendees can enjoy a buy one get one free deal on cocktails and selected drinks. DJ Markus is also scheduled to spin some funk, soul, and jazzy hip-hop tunes.

5.) The Great American Rib Company in Bangkok will be celebrating their ninth year of operation with an all you can eat buffett. Free Singha draft will be on tap from 6:00pm-9:00pm and the buffet includes a smorgasbord of Americana cuisine including: Smoked St. Louis Style Ribs, BBQ Smoked Chicken, Fried Chicken Fingers, Carolina Style Pulled Pork Shoulder, Smoked Honey Glazed Ham, Steak, Hot Dogs, Mac and Cheese, Chili, Caesar Salad, Corn on the Cob, Coleslaw, BBQ Beans, Jalapeno Corn Bread, Garlic Bread, Apple Pie, Watermelon and Brownies.

6.) The St. Regis Hotel in Bangkok will be holding an American Independence Day Dinner on the fourth from 7pm – 10:30pm. Pay tribute to the red, white and blue as Executive Chef Bastian Mantey invites you to indulge in a special American-inspired menu, which includes a set dinner of: Caesar salad, whole roasted turkey, sweet potato a la crème, grilled rosemary potato and peppers, green beans with lemon and garlic, brussles sprouts with nuts, gravy and BBQ Sauce. Cost per person is THB 1,950 and reservations are recommended.

7.) The Hard Rock Cafe in Bangkok’s Siam Square will have a night of Southern Rock on July 4th . From 9:30pm – 11pm musician Pong Hin Lek Fai will be on stage. A table reservation guaretees you an open Jack Daniel’s bottle, which is free with the entry of 4 persons. Tickets are THB 350 and you get a free drink.
