A search team has found the 59-year-old man who was lost inside Phu Phan National Park for six days. The search for Sompool Pumongchai, now popularly known amongst Thai netizens as “Uncle Goi,” started Saturday when he got separated from his 12 neighbors while picking mushrooms in the national park, which stretches across 664 square kilometers in northeastern Kalasin province.
He was found by the search team on Friday morning, and reportedly appeared weak and exhausted when the team discovered him.
While Sompool reportedly entered the park at Sang Kho sub-district, he was found at the other side of the national park at Dinchi sub-district — about 20 kilometers away, Thairath reported.
Authorities performed basic medical care on him and confirmed his identity before transporting him to Queen Savang Vadhana Memorial Hospital in Si Racha District, Chonburi Province.
Local media reported that Sompool is a respected man in his community, and is known for enjoying volunteer work. He has two daughters, who are just as relieved and happy as netizens — if not more — to have their father on his way back home.
