5 killed, more than 20 injured in bus-truck collision

Five people were killed in a collision between a bus and a truck early this morning in Kamphaeng Phet’s Khlong Khlung district.

The Phetprasert Tour Co double-decker bus was travelling on the Phahonyothin highway from Trat to Mae Sot with 45 passengers, including some Myanmar nationals, when it collided with the 19-wheel sugar truck, Thai PBS reported.

The drivers of the bus and truck were killed instantly, as were three other passengers including a Myanmar man and Myanmar woman.

More than 20 people were injured and rushed to hospital for treatment.

The initial police investigation showed that the crash took place when the bus driver tried to overtake another vehicle and was in the path of the truck when the two vehicles collided, throwing the bus from the highway and overturning it.
