Two slices of spectrum will go to auction to 4G service providers by the end of the year.
A process that has at times seems as tortured as that of switching to 3G services, rolling out fourth gen telecom service is back on track with auction dates set by regulators for 1800 megahertz and 900 megahertz.
After the junta signaled the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission could resume its original plan to hold auctions later this year, the commission scheduled an 1800-megahertz auction for Nov. 11 and the 900-megahertz for Dec. 15, according to Bangkok Post.
Altogether the two bands of spectra were each subdivided into two frequency ranges, making for four auctions with bids for each starting at THB11.6 billion 11.3 billion baht.
It would take about a month after the auctions to issue the licenses and roll out widespread 4G service by April, 2016.
Mobile companies would be limited to a capped number of holdings to encourage competition and new players entering the market.
